Personal Loans

Written by Anietie

A Personal Loan can help you cover a planned expense and repay it over an agreed schedule. If an offer is available to you, you’ll see it in the Kuda app. You can check the full cost and repayment plan before you decide whether to accept.

Before You Apply

Personal Loans are available to eligible Kuda customers. You’ll need a fully verified account and regular income. We’ll also check the details in your application and your credit information. Meeting the basic requirements doesn’t guarantee an offer.

Only apply for an amount you can repay. Repayment periods range from three to six months. Your app will show the amount and repayment options available to you.

How To Apply

  1. Open Personal Loan. Log in to the Kuda app, tap Borrow, then Personal Loan. Read the introduction screens and tap Apply For A Loan.

  2. Fill in your loan details. Type in the amount you’d like to borrow, choose what you’re borrowing for, then tap Next.

  3. Complete your personal information. Fill in or confirm the details requested, including your marital status, level of education and home address. Tap Next.

  4. Complete your employment details. Choose your employment status and fill in the details requested. Depending on your status, these may include your industry, work email, monthly income and usual payday.

  5. Review the credit check consent. Read how we’ll assess your eligibility. If you agree, tap I Agree & Continue.

  6. Confirm your main account. Answer Is Kuda your salary or main account? and tap Continue. If you choose Yes, we’ll review your Kuda account statement. If you choose No, follow the next step to link your salary or main bank account.

  7. Link another bank account, if needed. Read the Connect To Mono information and tap I Understand. In Mono, review the consent information, tap Link account, choose your bank and follow its sign-in and account-selection steps. Continue once your account is linked.

  8. Wait for verification. We’ll review your account statement and carry out the required checks. You can check your progress under Borrow. When we notify you that verification is complete, return to your Personal Loan application and tap Accept Offer to review the available options. Approval isn’t guaranteed.

  9. Choose your offer and repayment plan. On Available Offers, check or adjust the amount using the options shown and choose an available repayment period. Tap Next, then choose your monthly repayment date or tap Skip. If you skip, read and confirm the automatically set date before continuing.

  10. Review the full cost. On the confirmation screen, check the loan amount, interest, duration, monthly interest rate, processing fee and Value Added Tax (VAT), Credit Life Insurance, total amount due, monthly repayment and repayment date. Continue only if the offer works for you.

  11. Read and accept the agreement. Read the terms and conditions, tick I agree to the Terms & Conditions, then tap Accept Offer. Confirm with your transaction PIN or biometrics as prompted.

  12. Wait for your money. Accepting the offer doesn’t mean the money has arrived yet. We’ll notify you when it’s available in your Kuda spending account. We’ll also email you a signed copy of your offer letter.

You can stop before accepting the agreement if the amount, cost or repayment plan doesn’t work for you.

How Repayments Work

Your scheduled repayment is taken from your Kuda spending account on the date shown in your loan schedule. Keep enough money in the account before each due date.

You can also make a repayment in the app: go to Borrow → Personal Loans → Make Repayment.

If you pay less than the amount due, the unpaid part becomes overdue. We may collect it from money that comes into your account later or add it to a later repayment. A late repayment can affect your credit score and your chances of getting another loan.

Can I repay early?

Yes. You can pay more than one instalment early or settle the full loan. Paying instalments ahead of time doesn’t reduce the interest scheduled for the loan. If you settle the full loan early, you’ll pay interest up to the date you repay.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much can I borrow?

  • The amount you can borrow depends on your eligibility. Check your offer in the Kuda app to see the amount available to you.

How do you decide how much I can borrow?

To decide how much we can offer you, we look at:

  • Your financial history with Kuda

  • The results of a credit check with a credit bureau.

What’s the interest rate?

  • Your interest rate depends on the credit risk assessment we carry out when you apply. Check the rate and total cost shown in your offer before you accept.

How long does the application take?

  • The application process takes an average of ten minutes. This isn’t a guaranteed approval or payment time.

Is a loan offer guaranteed?

  • No. We review each application, so meeting the basic requirements doesn’t guarantee approval.

What will I pay?

Your offer will show:

  • Interest

  • Any processing fee

  • Value Added Tax (VAT)

  • Credit Life Insurance cost

  • Repayment dates

  • The total amount to repay.

Check these details before you accept.

Why might I need to connect another bank account?

It depends on your answer to Is Kuda your salary or main account?:

  • No: You’ll need to link your salary or main bank account through Mono so we can review your statement

  • Yes: We’ll review your Kuda statement instead, so you won’t need to link another account.

Why does my application say “Verifying Bank Statement”?

  • We’re still reviewing your statement. Check your progress under Borrow and return to your application when we notify you that verification is complete.

How long do I have to repay?

  • Repayment periods range from three to six months. Check your offer in the app for the options available to you and review the repayment schedule before accepting.

Can I choose my repayment date?

Yes. After choosing your offer, you can:

  • Choose a monthly repayment date

  • Tap Skip and confirm the automatically set date shown in the app.

Check the final repayment schedule before accepting.

I’ve accepted my offer. Where’s my money?

  • If the app says Your money is on the way, your loan hasn’t arrived in your spending account yet. We’ll notify you when it’s available. A signed copy of your offer letter will also be sent to your email.

Which account will you use for repayments?

  • Repayments are taken from your Kuda spending account. You can also make a repayment in the app under Borrow → Personal Loans → Make Repayment.

What if I can’t make a repayment on time?

Please add money to your Kuda spending account as soon as you can. Late repayments can:

  • Affect your credit score

  • Reduce your chances of getting another loan or a higher loan amount.

Paying each instalment on time can help you build your credit history, but it doesn’t guarantee another offer.

Can I accept only part of my offer?

  • On Available Offers, you can adjust the amount using the options shown in your app. Choose an amount you’re comfortable repaying, then review the updated costs and repayment plan before accepting.
